IT Project Manager – One of America’s Best Jobs
I came across an article this morning that discussed some of the top jobs available in America today. Focus.com recently published their list of the Best Jobs in America, with IT Project Manager ranking 5th out of 50. Rounding out the top 10 were the following:
- Systems Engineer
- Physician Assistant
- College Professor
- Nurse Practitioner
- IT Project Manager
- Certified Public Accountant
- Physical Therapist
- Computer/Network Security Consultant
- Intelligence Analyst
- Sales Director

I think being a PM is a great job. I am surprised to see where it’s ranked though. All the jobs with specific benefits (noted by the colour code) are lower down on the ranking. So if I understand it correctly, the PM has the following attributes, thus placing it at #5:
* PMs did well during the recession
* factors such as current employment, long-term growth, and pay and security were all above the norm
* interviews with PMs indicated a correlation with the position and quality of life factors such as flexibility, stress and personal satisfaction
Given the potential for projects to go awry I’m surprised the factors measured yielded so many positive results! That must mean PMs are pretty resilient too!
